Week

Food
Storage:
This
is the week for your sweet tooth. Stock up on alternative sweeteners
such as honey, molasses, brown sugar, jam, Stevia, etc. as well as
stocking up on hard candies or favorite treats that will last a long
time. Seeing as we just had Halloween, I pulled out all the
Gobstoppers, Spree and SweeTart candies and stored them away for
future use!
Family
Preparedness:
Do
your family members know what to do in case a disaster happens while not at home? What if there is complete chaos or destruction at your child's school or work
place? Work out a contingency plan ahead of time. Keep a small
emergency kit in their backpack/car/purse/locker. Keep a list of
instructions with it so both you and your family members can
reference it and be on the same page.
Instructions
for safety:
-Follow
the Spirit
-Follow
your teacher or other trustworthy adult
-If
there is no adult to help, then _____ needs to get the emergency
backpacks from his locker and go to _____’s classroom. If ______ is
not there, go to the bathroom on the
first level. Remember to meet in the bathroom if you
are
not in your classrooms when disaster strikes!
-If
there is no adult to help you at that point, go together to the
playground equipment.
-Wait
for Mom, Dad or ANYONE ELSE that knows the safe word/phrase. Make
sure you ASK FOR IT from whoever is trying to
take you away from the school.Yell, scream and run (together) if they
cannot give it to you. If I cannot find you, I will yell our safe
word over and over and you will know it’s safe to come to me.
-Depending
on the disaster, a family member should make it to you within an
hour. Use your emergency kits to help yourselves and others until
outside help arrives.
-Above
all else, know that Heavenly Father knows what is going on. He is
aware of you and your needs. He loves you and will send the Holy
Ghost to comfort you. If anyone in our family is called home from
their earthly mission at this time, just know that there will be an
amazing “family reunion” someday soon!
Be strong.
Have courage.
Above all else, have
faith, not fear. Love you forever. ♥Mom
Spiritual
Preparedness:
"The greatest lesson we can learn in mortality is that when God speaks and we obey, we will always be right... When we keep the commandments, our lives will be happier, more fulfilling, and less complicated. Our challenges and problems will be easier to bear, and we will receive [God’s] promised blessings.
“God’s commandments are not given to frustrate us or to become obstacles to our happiness. Just the opposite is true. He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just how we need to live our lives in order to obtain the greatest happiness possible. He has provided us with guidelines which, if we follow them, will see us safely through this often treacherous mortal journey."
For family home evening, review President Monson's message and watch THIS VIDEO on obedience. Discuss the "barriers" in our lives and how being obedient blesses us.
